AC&Y Trail Phase 1 Update

We have been approved by the state to receive grant money of approximately $323,000 for Phase 1 of the trail. Phase 1 will finish 3.3 miles (roughly half) of the trail. Trail completed with Phase 1 will be from Route 162 in New London to Greenwich East Townline 79 and from Kniffin Street in Greenwich to Alpha Road. Before this grant money is released to us, we must complete a categorical exclusion document which needs reports from six agencies. We have done our part on all six. Three have been completed. We are still waiting for reports from three agencies. Once we get all all six reports, the grant money will be released to us. We will then submit bids for construction work.

Work to be done in Phase 1 includes: ditch work to improve drainage, culvert replacement, safety barricades where necessary, and base and finishing limestone for a smooth trail surface.

Our total project cost for Phase 1 is $430,732. We need to put forward 25% of this or $107,683. We have already raised more than half of this match. Will you be able to help us meet our grant match goal? If yes, please donate on this website or mail a check to:

Hello Trail Members and Friends,

NLGRT has received notice from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources that our grant application for Phase I drainage and finish work has been given conditional approval! Our grant award will be in the amount of $323,049, which is 75% of the total project cost of $430,732. We still have to wait for the Ohio State Controlling Board to give their approval at their upcoming meeting.

Once finalized, we can solicit bids from contractors and perform work related to Phase I.

This is great news for our trail! Now is the time for us to reach out to anyone you might know who is willing to contribute to Phase I match funding. NLGRT is responsible for raising the 25% match for this grant. We are looking to raise $110,000 which is a bit more than our requirement, but as a non-profit organization, there will always be a need for fundraising.

Future development plans include seeking grants for Phase II, which will complete the trail up to TL 187 from the east and Rt 250 from the west, and Phase III, which will take the trail over the Vermilion River bridge and under Rt 250, completing the trail.

All are welcome to help us on work days. We do require membership in NLGRT, Inc. to participate for insurance and liability reasons. Annual membership dues are $10/person or $15/couple.
